Privacy policy

This page explains, in plain English, what information the Bais Horoa of Flatbush website collects, why, and who can see it.

Last updated October 21, 2026

The short version

  • We collect only what the shul needs to run member accounts, services, donations and payments.
  • We never sell or rent your information, and we do not share it for anyone else’s marketing.
  • The site has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking scripts.
  • Full card numbers never reach the shul. Our card processor handles them; we keep only a card reference and the last four digits.

Visiting the public pages

You can read the home page, Zmanim and donation information without an account. We do not use analytics or advertising cookies, and we do not build a profile of visitors. Like any website, our hosting provider (Cloudflare) processes basic technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

Signing in

You can sign in with Google, with Microsoft, or with a one-time link sent to your email address. Sign-in is handled by the site’s login provider (Supabase). When you use Google or Microsoft, they tell us your name, your email address and, if your account has one, a link to your profile picture. We never see or store your Google or Microsoft password.

Your browser keeps a secure sign-in session (stored in cookies and browser storage) so you stay signed in. These are needed for the site to work and are not used for tracking. Logging out clears them.

Information in your member account

Depending on how you use the site, your account may hold:

  • Profile details: your name, email address, phone number, mailing address and membership tier.
  • Message preferences: whether you want shul messages by email, text message or WhatsApp.
  • Requests and orders: Kiddush sponsorships, hall rentals, Matzoh orders and seat registrations you make, and their status.
  • Your shul account: pledges, charges, donations, payments and receipts recorded for you.
  • Messages you send us through the contact form: your name, email address and message.

Some member records were first created by the shul office from the shul’s existing email list, so your record may include your name and email address before you sign in for the first time.

Payments and donations

Card payments are processed by our card processor, MerchPay (USAePay). You type your card number into secure fields provided by the processor, so the full card number goes to them and not to the shul. The shul stores only what it needs for its records and for saved cards you choose to reuse: a card reference from the processor, the card brand, the last four digits, and the amount, date and purpose of each payment.

The online donation form also uses a human-verification check (Cloudflare Turnstile) to block automated abuse. Payments made by Zelle, QuickPay, cash or check are recorded in your shul account by the office.

How we use your information

  • To let you sign in and manage your own account.
  • To handle your requests, orders, seats, donations and payments, and to issue receipts and statements.
  • To keep the shul’s accounts accurate.
  • To send you shul messages on the channels you have chosen. You can change this at any time in the member portal.
  • To answer messages you send us.

Who can see it

You see only your own account. There is no member directory and members never see each other’s details or the seating chart. Shul administrators see only the areas their role covers (for example, the accounting administrator sees accounts, and the seating administrator sees seating). Access is enforced by the shul’s database, not just by the website’s screens.

We share information only with the service providers that run the site for us (Supabase for sign-in and the database, Cloudflare for hosting, and MerchPay/USAePay for card payments), and only as needed to provide their service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

Keeping it safe

The site is served only over encrypted connections (HTTPS). The shul’s main administrator account must use two-step verification, and important administrative changes are recorded in an audit log. No system is perfectly secure, so please tell us right away if you think your account has been misused.

Your choices

You can update your details and message preferences in the member portal. To ask for a copy of your information, a correction, or to have your account closed, contact the shul office. We keep financial records as long as the shul needs them for its accounts and record-keeping.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
